The last 1.5 meters of your intestinal tube is known as the colon or large intestine. Cells in the colon constantly renew themselves but the DNA that regulates these processes, sometimes get corrupted. This leads to the early signs of colon cancer, that is, excessive growth of new cells. These excessive cells aggregate together and form a lump known as a polyp. Some of these polyps become cancerous.
